On Thursday in Beijing, Song Tao, a senior official responsible for Taiwan affairs, called on the United States to work with China to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, oppose “Taiwan independence,” and support China’s reunification efforts.
Song Tao, who serves as the head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made these remarks during a meeting with John Thornton, co-chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Society.
