Sweetness fills the air in June as the fragrant aroma of lychees permeates Guangzhou’s Zengcheng District. Despite a decrease in lychee production this year due to rain and abnormal weather conditions, local farmers are turning to cutting-edge technology to overcome challenges and expand their reach.
At the recent Lychee Festival in Zengcheng, farmers have harnessed the power of 5G livestreaming to promote their orchards and showcase their fruits to a global audience. Walking through their lush orchards, they offer viewers around the world an immersive experience, broadcasting live from under the canopy of lychee trees.
“Technology has opened new doors for us,” says a local farmer. “With 5G livestreaming, we can connect directly with consumers everywhere, sharing our story and our passion for lychees.”
The adoption of 5G technology has not only helped mitigate the impact of reduced yields but has also empowered farmers to tap into new markets both domestically and internationally. Through interactive live broadcasts, consumers can virtually tour the orchards, learn about rare lychee varieties, and place orders in real-time.
CGTN’s Liu Jiaxin joined the farmers’ live broadcast at Donglin Orchard in Zengcheng to take a closer look at this year’s lychee harvest and the innovative methods being used to promote it. The integration of technology with traditional agriculture is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the region’s farmers.
As the lychee season peaks, the fusion of tradition and technology in Guangzhou’s orchards offers a sweet example of how innovation can drive economic growth and connect cultures across the globe.
