Dubai Celebrates Dragon Boat Festival with Vibrant Cultural Activities

The Dragon Boat Festival, the first Chinese festival recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Dubai from Saturday to Monday. China Media Group (CMG) Middle East organized a special event to promote traditional Chinese culture and invite tourists to partake in the festivities.

Held in the Chinatown section of the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping mall, the “Experience Dragon Boat Festival Culture” event showcased a variety of traditional crafts. Visitors had the opportunity to engage in activities such as calligraphy, sachet making, paper cutting, and dragon boat lantern making. These hands-on experiences allowed participants to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The event not only attracted residents of Dubai but also tourists from around the world. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn about and participate in Chinese traditions. The celebrations served as a cultural bridge, fostering understanding and connection between the diverse communities in Dubai and beyond.

The Dragon Boat Festival, with its origins dating back over 2,000 years, commemorates the ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan. It is traditionally marked by dragon boat races, the eating of rice dumplings called zongzi, and various cultural activities. Events like the one in Dubai highlight the global appeal of this festival and its significance in promoting cross-cultural exchange.
