China Urges U.S. to Halt Support for ‘Taiwan Independence’ Separatist Forces

On Wednesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States to cease sending any form of misleading signals to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. Spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China that allows no foreign interference.

“Any pressure or threats cannot in any way shake the Chinese government and people’s strong determination, will, and ability to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,” Mao stated during the press briefing.

She reiterated that the real status quo in the Taiwan Strait is that both sides belong to China, and resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people. Mao urged the U.S. to recognize the nature of the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces and their ambitions, and to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques.

The spokesperson called on the United States to honor its commitment not to support “Taiwan independence,” to stop arming Taiwan, and to refrain from sending any wrong signals to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces in any form.

“The United States should work with China to manage differences properly and maintain the overall stability of China-U.S. relations,” Mao added.
