China has announced plans to increase imports of high-quality products from Comoros, following talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Comorian counterpart Dhoihir Dhoulkamal in Beijing on Friday. The discussions took place during the 10th ministerial conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, highlighting the strengthening ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, Wang Yi expressed appreciation for Comoros’ support of China’s core interests and major concerns. He affirmed China’s respect for Comoros’ sovereignty, independence, and national traditions, emphasizing a commitment to mutual respect and cooperation.
“China is ready to strengthen exchanges with Comoros at all levels,” Wang stated. “We aim to promote high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen collaboration in poverty alleviation, education, medical care, and other fields, and import more high-quality products from Comoros.”
Dhoulkamal acknowledged the significance of China’s role in promoting development across Arab and African nations. “Comoros firmly supports China in safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and recognizes that Taiwan is part of China,” he said. “The Belt and Road Initiative offers valuable opportunities for common development, and Comoros will continue to actively participate.”
He expressed gratitude for China’s support during Comoros’ chairmanship of the African Union, noting that his country remains committed to enhancing Africa-China cooperation. “We will, as always, advocate for and contribute to the strengthening of ties between Africa and China,” Dhoulkamal added.
The meeting underscores the growing relationship between China and Comoros, with both nations seeking to expand economic ties and collaboration across various sectors. The increased importation of Comorian products into China represents a significant opportunity for the island nation to boost its economy and for China to diversify its imports.
The discussions between the foreign ministers reflect a shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations and fostering mutual development. As Comoros continues its active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, both countries anticipate enhanced cooperation and benefits for their peoples.
