Global Animations Shine at Golden Monkey King Awards During Hangzhou’s 20th CICAF

Hangzhou, China — The Golden Monkey King Awards, celebrated as the \”highest honor in Chinese animation,\” recognized outstanding animations from around the world on Wednesday. A total of 34 exceptional works were honored at the prestigious event, a highlight of the 20th China International Cartoon and Animation Festival (CICAF) in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

The 20th CICAF, which opened on Wednesday and spans five days, is themed \”The Prime of Chinese Animation.\” The festival has drawn over 2,100 enterprises and institutions from more than 50 countries and regions, showcasing the vibrancy and growth of the global animation industry. With more than 140,000 animated works—both domestic and international—being showcased, CICAF stands as a significant platform for cultural exchange and industry collaboration.

The Golden Monkey King Awards, hosted by China Media Group, featured three categories this year: the General Awards, the Promising Awards, and the Animation Featuring Revolutionary Traditions Awards. Following a call for submissions on April 12, the awards received a remarkable 765 original animation works from 17 countries and regions, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. From these, 88 pieces were shortlisted for the final evaluation.

Among the distinguished winners, \”Stories of Dunhuang,\” submitted by CCTV Animation Group, captured the Gold Prize for the General Award — Animated Series. This work brings to life the grandeur and splendor of the ancient city of Dunhuang, a key point on the Silk Road, using vivid and diverse animation forms that reflect its rich historical and cultural exchanges.

\”Chang An\” and \”Seasons\” were honored with the Gold Prizes for General Award — Animated Feature Film and General Award — Animated Short Film, respectively. \”Mountains of the Wind Glow\” received the Gold Prize for General Award — Comics, showcasing the diversity of artistic expression within the animation and comics spheres.

In recognition of works that reflect revolutionary traditions, \”Team of the Summit\” took the Special Prize for Animation Featuring Revolutionary Traditions, highlighting narratives that inspire and educate audiences about historical legacies.

The Promising Awards recognized emerging talents, honoring twelve animated shorts and six comics. These awards underscore CICAF’s commitment to nurturing new voices in animation and fostering innovation within the industry.

The Golden Monkey King Awards and the CICAF festival not only celebrate artistic excellence but also serve as a bridge connecting global creators, audiences, and industry professionals. As the animation industry continues to evolve, events like CICAF play a crucial role in promoting cultural exchange and driving the future of animation.
