China has announced that President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy, Sun Yeli, Minister of Culture and Tourism, will attend the inauguration ceremony of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele’s second term on June 1 in San Salvador.

The announcement was made by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Tuesday.

President Bukele, known for his ambitious policies and innovative approaches to governance, has strengthened ties with China during his first term. The attendance of Sun Yeli underscores the growing relationship between the two nations, highlighting China’s interest in fostering closer diplomatic and cultural connections with countries in Central America.

Sun Yeli’s participation in the inauguration is expected to further enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. As Minister of Culture and Tourism, Sun brings a wealth of experience in promoting cross-cultural understanding and economic collaboration.

China’s engagement in Latin America has been increasingly prominent, with investments in infrastructure, energy, and other key sectors. El Salvador established diplomatic relations with China in 2018. Since then, both countries have signed agreements aiming to boost economic development and mutual cooperation.

The presence of a high-level Chinese envoy at President Bukele’s inauguration signifies the importance China places on its relationship with El Salvador and the broader region.
