Premier Li Qiang Calls for High-Quality Development in Xinjiang

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has urged Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to advance high-quality development, emphasizing the importance of improving people’s wellbeing and promoting long-term stability.

During his three-day inspection tour from Tuesday to Thursday in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Li, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted Xinjiang’s strategic position in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt.

“Xinjiang should better connect inland regions with countries along the route,” Li stated, “and build itself into a bridgehead for opening up to the West.”

He noted the significant increase in overseas visitors to Xinjiang following the implementation of the visa-free policy. Li called for strengthened international exchanges in trade, education, medical care, culture, and tourism.

While visiting local companies, the premier emphasized supporting the development of competitive industries that leverage Xinjiang’s unique strengths, such as energy, agricultural product processing, and equipment manufacturing.

Li urged local authorities to boost employment and incomes, enhance people’s wellbeing, and promote unity among all ethnic groups in the region.

He encouraged Xinjiang to elevate all aspects of its work to a higher level and make greater contributions to the overall development of the country.
