Xi Jinping and Vucic Affirm Strong China-Serbia Relations at Farewell Ceremony

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan attended a heartfelt farewell ceremony hosted by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his wife Tamara Vucic in Belgrade. The event marked the culmination of Xi’s significant visit to Serbia, highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations.

President Vucic expressed profound gratitude towards Chinese enterprises and workers for their vital contributions to Serbia’s infrastructure and urban development. He lauded China as a great nation with a rich civilization spanning over 5,000 years, noting its rapid development and respected global status. “The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable,” Vucic remarked, emphasizing China’s role in not only advancing its own progress but also assisting other countries like Serbia.

In response, President Xi acknowledged the strong foundation of the China-Serbia relationship, built on mutual respect and shared goals. He stated, “China seeks not only the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation but also the happiness of the people of the world.” Xi underscored China’s commitment to global development through initiatives like building a community with a shared future for mankind. He affirmed, “A strong China is by no means a threat to the world,” highlighting the nation’s readiness to collaborate with all countries for common growth.

Vucic conveyed his hope to elevate Serbia-China relations to new heights, taking this historic visit as an opportunity. He emphasized the special arrangements made for Xi’s visit, aimed at reflecting the deep friendship between the Serbian and Chinese people, especially towards President Xi.

As the visit concluded, Vucic and Tamara accompanied Xi and Peng to the airport, where two Serbian air force fighters escorted the Chinese delegation’s plane, symbolizing the strong bond between the nations. Xi described the visit as “very pleasant and moving,” leaving an “unforgettable impression.” He expressed anticipation for continued close communication with Vucic, aiming to “write a new chapter in China-Serbia relations” and benefit both peoples.

Following his departure from Serbia, President Xi arrived in Budapest to begin his state visit to Hungary at the invitation of Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The visit is expected to further enhance China’s relations with Central and Eastern European countries.
