Olympic-Themed Chinese Art Exhibition Debuts at Les Invalides in Paris

An Olympic-themed exhibition of Chinese art has opened at Les Invalides in Paris, bringing together over 200 masterpieces that celebrate the fusion of sports and art.

The exhibition features a diverse collection of Chinese ink-and-wash paintings, calligraphy, oil paintings, sculptures, and intangible cultural heritage items, highlighting the rich artistic traditions of China.

Entitled “From Beijing to Paris: Olympic Tour of Chinese and French Artists,” the event is co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG), the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, the Ligue de Football Professionnel, and several French art organizations.

Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of CMG, remarked that “sports and art are vital components of human culture, and their beauty complements each other, enriching the human spirit.”

David Lappartient, President of the French Olympic Committee, emphasized the significance of this cultural event, stating, “Celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France through this exhibition is monumental, especially in the year of the Paris Olympics. It conveys messages of peace and friendship by blending sports and art.”

Vincent Labrune, President of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, highlighted the connection between football and art, noting that “football embodies strength and passion. Chinese art, a treasure of human civilization, has profoundly influenced French art. We hope this exhibition allows more French people to appreciate its charm.”

Sun Xiaoyun, Chairperson of the China Calligraphers Association, described Chinese calligraphy as “a unique art form of oriental Chinese characters. It encapsulates the exquisite soul of Chinese art and extends the realm of life and self-cultivation.”

The exhibition aims to promote cultural exchange between China and France and is open to the public from May 7 to 18.
