During this year’s five-day May Day holiday, travelers across China embraced new destinations and a rich array of cultural events, ranging from traditional performances to modern festivals.
Traditional intangible cultural heritage items captivated tourists in various regions. In Lantian county, located in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, visitors were enthralled by the art of Dawaz, meaning aerial tightrope walking in the Uygur language. The breathtaking performances showcased the skill and heritage of this ancient art form.
Meanwhile, in east China’s Changzhou City, vibrant music festivals drew large crowds of travelers seeking contemporary entertainment. To enhance the visitor experience, local authorities implemented measures to ensure comfort and convenience. They arranged 500 coaches for long-distance travel, provided over 10,000 free parking spaces, and extended the operation hours of the subway network until 11:30 p.m.
The holiday period highlighted China’s diverse cultural landscape, offering tourists both traditional and modern experiences. As travelers unlocked new destinations, the tourism industry observed a surge in domestic travel, reflecting a growing interest in exploring the rich tapestry of China’s cultural and regional offerings.
