China’s national political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recently held its 18th Chairperson’s Council meeting in Beijing. The meeting, presided over by Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the significant role of China’s western region in the nation’s reform, development, and stability.
During the meeting on Monday, Wang emphasized the need to acknowledge and bolster the western region’s contributions. He urged political advisors to conduct in-depth research and engage in active consultations to advance large-scale development in the area, aligning with China’s goals in the new era.
Wang also called for strengthened discipline education among political advisors, emphasizing the importance of strict Party self-governance within the national political advisory body. He underscored the need for solidarity and adherence to Party principles to effectively address the challenges and opportunities facing the nation.
The meeting concluded with the decision to convene the seventh session of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee from June 4 to 6. Additionally, a document outlining study and research activities for members of the Chairperson’s Council was deliberated and approved, signaling a continued commitment to informed policymaking and advisory functions.
