Amidst escalating geopolitical tensions and mounting economic challenges, the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development convened on Sunday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Marking its inaugural session in Saudi Arabia, the meeting has drawn over 1,000 global leaders from around the world. The participants are engaging in critical dialogues aimed at finding solutions to the interconnected challenges facing the global community.

Borge Brende, President of the WEF, emphasized the pivotal role of the Middle East in shaping the future. “The Middle East is at the heart of shaping security, energy, and development paths forward,” Brende stated. “It is only by coming together we can chart a course toward a more secure, stable, and sustainable future.”

The opening sessions underscored the importance of inclusive growth as a cornerstone for sustainable development. Faisal Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia, highlighted the necessity of placing people at the center of economic progress. “Inclusive growth is not just a lofty ideal; it is a categorical imperative,” he remarked. “This means investing in people, in their skills, in their education, and in their well-being.”

Leaders discussed strategies for fostering economic growth that benefits all segments of society, emphasizing education, skill development, and health as critical areas of investment.

The meeting also addressed the pressing need for international collaboration to tackle global issues such as climate change, energy security, and economic stability. Participants acknowledged that these challenges are deeply interconnected and require collective action.
