Europe experienced a record-breaking number of “extreme heat stress” days in 2023, as reported by two major climate monitoring organizations on Monday. The EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released a new report detailing this concerning development.
“2023 reached a record number of days with ‘extreme heat stress,’ which is equivalent to a ‘feels like’ temperature of more than 46 degrees Celsius,” the report stated.
The increasing frequency of extreme heat stress days has raised alarms over the potential rise in heat-related deaths across Europe, with summers becoming progressively hotter. This situation underscores the urgent need for global efforts to address climate change and its impacts.
