China-Slovenia Relations Reach ‘Stable and Mature’ Stage, Says Wang Yi

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has praised the development of China-Slovenia relations, declaring them at a ‘stable and mature’ stage after more than 30 years of cooperation. Wang made the remarks during talks with Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, who is on an official visit to China.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the mutual understanding and respect between the two nations despite differences in social systems and cultures. ‘Our countries understand, respect, and appreciate each other, fostering a strong friendship between our peoples,’ he said.

He expressed China’s appreciation for Slovenia’s adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China’s core interests. ‘China supports Slovenia’s national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and respects its pursuit of a development path suited to its national conditions,’ Wang stated.

In light of global uncertainties, Wang emphasized the importance of enhancing mutual trust and advocating true multilateralism. ‘China is ready to work with Slovenia to jointly safeguard free trade, oppose protectionism, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation,’ he added.

Wang Yi congratulated Slovenia on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2024-2025 period. He expressed China’s readiness to strengthen cooperation within the UNSC and other international institutions to promote fair and reasonable global governance.

Addressing economic ties, Wang reiterated China’s rejection of attempts to ‘de-China’ under the guise of ‘de-risking.’ He called for mutual openness and fair treatment of businesses, expressing hope that Slovenia would provide Chinese firms with just and non-discriminatory conditions. He also welcomed Slovenian companies to invest and operate in China.

Tanja Fajon echoed the positive sentiments, affirming Slovenia’s commitment to deepening relations with China. She acknowledged the significance of the one-China principle and expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in trade, innovation, and sustainable development.

The meeting signifies a mutual desire to strengthen bilateral ties and collaboration on international platforms, setting a positive tone for future engagements between China and Slovenia.
