In a speech delivered in Paris on Sunday, Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce of China, asserted that the rapid advancement of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers is driven by technological innovation, a robust supply chain, and fierce market competition— not government subsidies.
“The growth of China’s EV industry is a testament to our continuous technological breakthroughs and the efficiency of our supply chain,” Wang stated. “Accusations of overcapacity by the United States and Europe are unfounded.”
Wang emphasized the significant role China’s EV industry plays in combating global climate change and promoting a green, low-carbon transformation. “Our development has made important contributions to the global fight against climate change,” he noted. “The Chinese government is committed to actively supporting enterprises in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests.”
Addressing the challenges posed by external uncertainties, Wang urged Chinese enterprises to focus on strengthening their internal capabilities. “Enterprises should adhere to innovation, enhance risk management, and prioritize green development,” he advised.
He also encouraged Chinese companies to deepen cooperation with international partners. “By collaborating with local enterprises, we can seek common development and act as steadfast participants and contributors to the global green transformation,” Wang said.
Wang’s remarks come amid increasing scrutiny from Western countries over China’s EV industry, with concerns about market dynamics and competitive practices. His speech aimed to clarify China’s position and highlight the industry’s dedication to sustainable growth and international cooperation.
