Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Kuomintang, visited the Xi’an branch of the China National Archives of Publications and Culture on Saturday. Located in Xi’an, the capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, the archives house an extensive collection of ancient books and cultural artifacts.
During his visit, Ma was introduced to selected collections by Liu Chengyong, director of the China National Archives of Publications and Culture. Impressed by the preservation efforts, Ma remarked, “The archives have preserved so many ancient books well, making an indelible contribution to the spread of Chinese civilization.”
Leading a youth delegation from Taiwan to the Chinese mainland, Ma arrived in south China’s Guangdong Province on Monday. On Thursday, the delegation participated in a ceremony in Shaanxi to pay homage to Huangdi, also known as the Yellow Emperor, the legendary ancestor of all Chinese people.
Throughout their journey, Ma and the delegation have visited significant historical and cultural sites, including the Ma Yuan Memorial Temple, Ma Yuan Tomb, Famen Temple, Xi’an City Wall, and Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum. They are scheduled to visit the Shaanxi History Museum on Sunday.
The visit aims to foster cultural exchange and strengthen ties between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland, providing the youth delegation with a deeper understanding of shared heritage and history.
