In a packed panel discussion at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024 in Boao, southern China’s Hainan Province, China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, Liu Zhenmin, emphasized the critical need for immediate global action to address the climate crisis.
Liu noted that since the recognition of climate change in the early 1990s, marked by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1994, the world has reached a pivotal moment. “Now is the time for every country and every individual around the globe to take action to realize the goals of carbon neutrality and energy transition,” he stated.
The panel, themed “Accelerating Climate Action,” brought together international climate negotiators, enterprises, bankers, and scientists who shared Liu’s sense of urgency. Despite the shared commitment, speakers pointed out that financing remains one of the major challenges in the global response to climate change.
As nations gather in forums like Boao, the call for collaborative efforts and innovative solutions becomes ever more pressing. The Boao Forum for Asia serves as a critical platform for dialogue and action, aiming to unite stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainable development and a greener future.
