Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Sets New Passenger Record During Lunar New Year
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) saw a record-breaking surge in passenger traffic on Monday, the third day of the Lunar New Year, with over 130,000 inbound and outbound travelers crossing the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, according to official data.
This figure surpasses the previous single-day record of 115,000 passengers set during last year’s Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period, highlighting the growing connectivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
From Saturday to Monday, the bridge facilitated the movement of 310,000 passengers and 41,000 vehicles, both inbound and outbound. Compared to the same period last year during the Spring Festival, this marks a 5.2-fold increase in passenger numbers and a 2.4-fold increase in vehicle crossings. The port handled a total of 184,000 inbound travelers, including 24,000 inbound vehicles.
The 55-kilometer HZMB links Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province, and Macao SAR. Since its opening, the bridge has significantly boosted economic opportunities and integration within the Greater Bay Area, fostering closer ties among the regions.
As travel restrictions ease and festive celebrations encourage mobility, the unprecedented traffic through the HZMB underscores the bridge’s vital role in enhancing regional connectivity and economic development.
