A new segment of the Beijing-Xiongan Expressway opened to traffic on Thursday, marking the completion of the entire expressway and significantly enhancing connectivity between China’s capital and the Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province.
The direct route now reduces driving time between Beijing’s southwestern Fifth Ring Road and the Xiongan New Area to just one hour. This development is expected to boost regional integration and facilitate economic growth within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The expressway spans approximately 97 kilometers, comprising a 70-kilometer segment in Hebei Province and a 27-kilometer section within Beijing. Its completion represents a major milestone in China’s infrastructure development, aiming to relieve Beijing of non-essential functions related to its status as the nation’s capital.
Established in April 2017, the Xiongan New Area encompasses the counties of Rongcheng, Anxin, and Xiongxian, along with adjacent areas. The area was created to promote balanced regional development and is envisioned as a model city for innovation and sustainability.
Business professionals and investors anticipate that the new expressway will enhance mobility, attract investment, and contribute to the area’s growth. For travelers and cultural enthusiasts, the expressway improves access to the region’s attractions and heritage sites.
The opening of the expressway signifies a step forward in China’s efforts to coordinate development across key regions and reflects the nation’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and modernization.
