China’s Technological Milestones: Ultra-Deepwater Drillship and Shenzhou-17 Spacewalk

China Launches First Self-Built Ultra-Deepwater Drillship

China’s maritime engineering has reached a new pinnacle with the launch of its first self-built ultra-deepwater drillship, Mengxiang, which translates to “dream” in Chinese. The vessel embarked on its trial voyage from Guangzhou City earlier this week.

The Mengxiang boasts world-leading ocean drilling capabilities, marking a significant achievement in China’s offshore exploration technology. The drillship is expected to enhance the country’s deep-sea resource extraction and contribute to global energy prospects.

Shenzhou-17 Crew Prepares for Maiden Spacewalk

In advancements beyond Earth’s atmosphere, the crew of China’s Shenzhou-17 mission aboard the Tiangong space station is gearing up for their first extravehicular activities (EVAs). The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced that the astronauts would conduct the spacewalk in the coming days.

The crew has been stationed on the orbital complex for 54 days, marking nearly one-third of their intended six-month mission. The upcoming EVAs are anticipated to play a crucial role in the maintenance and development of the space station’s operations, as well as in conducting scientific experiments.

These milestones underscore China’s rapid progress in technological innovation, both on Earth and in space, reflecting the nation’s commitment to advancing its capabilities in critical sectors.
