The recently opened Zhijiang branch of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum in Hangzhou has swiftly become a must-visit destination for culture enthusiasts since its grand opening on August 29.
Nestled in the heart of Zhejiang Province, known for its profound history and abundant cultural heritage, the new museum branch showcases an impressive collection of cultural treasures. Among its prized possessions are the “king of jade cong,” a ritual artifact unearthed from the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City dating back approximately 5,000 years, and “The Remaining Mountain,” a segment of the famous Chinese painting masterpiece Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains by the renowned painter Huang Gongwang (1269–1354).
Spanning a total floor area of 100,000 square meters, the museum dedicates around 32,000 square meters to exhibition space. Visitors can explore a wide array of artifacts ranging from celadon ware and traditional paintings to exhibits showcasing local folk customs. The highlight among the ongoing exhibitions is “Ten Thousand Years of Zhejiang – Zhejiang History and Culture Exhibition,” which chronicles the region’s history from the Shangshan Culture over 10,000 years ago to modern times, featuring over 2,000 artifacts.
The museum embraces cutting-edge technologies to enhance visitor experience. Advanced systems like 3D digital space modeling create immersive digital exhibition halls, while low-reflection glass reduces light interference, offering a clearer view of the cultural relics.
The Zhijiang branch is part of the larger Zhijiang Cultural Center, the most extensive cultural complex in Zhejiang Province. The center also houses the Zhejiang Library, Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Zhejiang Literature Museum, and Zhijiang Culture Public Service Center, making it a comprehensive hub for cultural exploration and education.
