In Beijing, at the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of building a global community with a shared future. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the forum convened over 4,000 delegates under the theme “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”
President Xi highlighted that “China can only do well when the world is doing well. When China does well, the world will get even better.” His words underscore the mutual benefits of international cooperation and the pivotal role of the BRI in fostering global development.
Over the past decade, the BRI has evolved into a cornerstone of international collaboration, aligning with the concept of a global community of shared future. China has expanded its openness, transforming its inland regions from “fullbacks” to “forwards,” and strengthening ties with global markets. Participating countries have worked collectively to promote trade and investment liberalization, remove trade barriers, and improve business environments within the BRI framework.
According to the white paper “The Belt and Road Initiative: A Key Pillar of the Global Community of Shared Future,” the cumulative value of imports and exports between China and BRI partner countries reached $19.1 trillion from 2013 to 2022, with an average annual growth rate of 6.4 percent. These figures reflect the significant impact of the BRI on global trade and economic prosperity.
The initiative’s success lies in its inclusive approach, encouraging countries to work together to expand the “pie of cooperation.” By fostering partnerships and shared development goals, the BRI continues to contribute to global economic growth and interconnectedness.
As the BRI enters its second decade, the emphasis on high-quality cooperation and shared prosperity remains central. The continued commitment of China and its global partners to the BRI signals a collective dedication to building a more interconnected and prosperous world.
