The China-Europe Seminar on Human Rights is taking place in Italy from September 20 to 21. Initiated in 2015, this seminar serves as an institutionalized academic platform for communication and cooperation between China and Europe on human rights issues. This year’s seminar, themed “Modernization and Diversity in Human Rights Culture“, aims to promote and protect human rights through equal and inclusive dialogue.
Modernization is intrinsically linked to the advancement of human rights, contributing to their all-round development. The seminar emphasizes that human rights should be defined in a comprehensive manner, encompassing various components such as politics, economy, society, and history. Participants acknowledge that there is no one-size-fits-all model for human rights development; instead, the ultimate goal is to respect and protect basic rights in a holistic way.
Economic well-being is highlighted as a fundamental dimension of human rights. The seminar underscores that socioeconomic development and human rights practices are mutually reinforcing. For China, the well-being of its 1.4 billion people is paramount, including efforts to end absolute poverty, build a moderately prosperous society in all respects, improve education and social security, develop whole-process people’s democracy, and advocate for common values of humanity.
China’s new development philosophy and paradigm are seen as the backbone of promoting common prosperity for all. The country is creating a new type of culture that fits within Chinese modernization, representing a new form of human civilization. Through inclusive communication and cooperation, the China-Europe Seminar on Human Rights seeks to foster mutual understanding and collaboration in advancing human rights globally.
