In a significant move to strengthen China-Africa relations, Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa co-chaired the China-Africa Leaders’ Roundtable Dialogue in Johannesburg, South Africa. The meeting brought together leaders from across the African continent to discuss mutual cooperation and development.
Held alongside the BRICS Summit, the dialogue focused on enhancing partnerships in trade, infrastructure, technology, and healthcare. President Xi emphasized the importance of fostering a community with a shared future, stating, “China and Africa share a destiny. We are committed to supporting sustainable development across the continent.”
President Ramaphosa highlighted the benefits of the growing partnership, saying, “Our collaboration with China is instrumental in achieving our developmental goals. Together, we can address global challenges and create opportunities for our people.”
The leaders agreed to deepen cooperation under initiatives like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative. Discussions also touched on peace and security, with a focus on promoting stability in the region.
This dialogue marks a pivotal moment in enhancing Sino-African ties, paving the way for increased investment and joint efforts in tackling global issues such as climate change and economic recovery post-pandemic.
