Senior General Min Aung Hlaing formally assumed Myanmar's presidency on Friday during a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, marking a pivotal moment in the country's political landscape. The oath-taking before the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament) occurred during the first regular session of the Third Union Parliament, six days after its commencement.
U Nyo Saw and Nan Ni Ni Aye were simultaneously sworn in as vice presidents, completing the executive leadership team. The ceremony also saw key Union-level officials – including Supreme Court judges, cabinet ministers, and financial regulators – pledge their duties to the state.
Min Aung Hlaing's appointment follows his April 3 election through Myanmar's Presidential Electoral College system. The former Defence Services commander-in-chief now faces the challenge of steering a nation grappling with economic pressures and regional security concerns.
