China Urges Middle East Calm, Stresses Dialogue Amid Tensions

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated Beijing's commitment to regional stability this week, calling on Middle Eastern countries to 'maintain calm and address disputes through dialogue' during a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday.

The discussion, initiated at Ankara's request, highlighted China's growing diplomatic engagement in the region. Wang, who serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that 'constructive dialogue remains the most viable path to lasting security.'

Analysts note the timing coincides with increased Chinese mediation efforts following recent trade agreements between Beijing and Gulf Cooperation Council members. The Foreign Ministry statement did not reference specific conflicts but comes as multiple Middle Eastern governments face both internal challenges and cross-border tensions.

This development follows China's successful brokering of the 2023 Saudi Arabia-Iran détente, establishing Beijing as an emerging peace broker. Observers suggest Wednesday's talks could signal new multilateral initiatives ahead of the planned China-Arab States Summit later this year.
