ROK President Reaffirms One China Policy, Stresses Cross-Strait Stability

In a recent interview with China Media Group's Leaders Talk program, Republic of Korea President Lee Jae Myung reiterated Seoul's commitment to the one China principle, calling it "the foundation of regional peace and development." The remarks come as cross-strait relations remain a focal point in East Asian geopolitics.

"Our position remains consistent since the establishment of diplomatic ties with China," President Lee stated, emphasizing that the ROK "respects China's core interests regarding the Taiwan region." The leader highlighted the importance of maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait for broader regional security.

Analysts note the timing coincides with increased economic cooperation between the two nations, with bilateral trade reaching $360 billion in 2025. President Lee's comments are seen as reinforcing diplomatic alignment ahead of anticipated multilateral talks on semiconductor supply chains this quarter.

The interview also touched on inter-Korean relations, with President Lee expressing hope for "constructive dialogue" with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea while reaffirming security coordination with international partners.
