China's manufacturing capabilities have reached parity with Germany and Japan, securing a position in the second tier of global manufacturing powers, according to the 2025 China Manufacturing Power Development Index Report released this week. The findings highlight sustained progress in innovation and green energy integration amid global economic pressures.
Compiled by the Chinese Academy of Engineering's Strategic Consulting Center, the annual report reveals that the Chinese mainland's manufacturing added value accounted for 27.71% of the global total in 2024. This maintains China's position as the world's largest manufacturing economy since 2010.
"China has built the world's most advanced clean-coal power systems and ultra-high-voltage grids," said CAE academician Lyu Junfu, emphasizing breakthroughs in energy-storage equipment and industrial digitization. The sector's shift toward high-end, intelligent production has accelerated structural upgrades while maintaining scale advantages.
Analysts note that coordinated improvements in quality, efficiency, and sustainable development capacity will drive future growth. The report underscores China's strategic focus on balancing industrial modernization with environmental goals as it eyes first-tier manufacturing status.
