China Launches Long March-8A Rocket with Internet Satellites

China advanced its space infrastructure ambitions on Friday, December 26, 2025, with the successful launch of a Long March-8A carrier rocket from Hainan's commercial spacecraft launch site. The mission, conducted at 7:26 a.m. Beijing Time, deployed the 17th group of low-orbit internet satellites into preset orbit – marking another milestone in China's expanding satellite constellation program.

The launch underscores Beijing's accelerated efforts to develop space-based internet infrastructure, particularly valuable for remote regions across Asia. This year has seen multiple deployments under the program, which aims to enhance global connectivity and support digital economic growth.

Analysts note the Hainan launch site's growing importance in China's commercial space strategy, with its geographical advantages enabling cost-effective missions. The Long March-8A – a newer model in China's rocket fleet – demonstrates improved payload capacity and reusability features critical for frequent satellite deployments.

While details about international partnerships remain undisclosed, the project aligns with broader Asian technological cooperation frameworks. The network could potentially bridge digital divides in Southeast Asia and maritime regions when fully operational by late 2026.
