China Urges Balanced Approach as TikTok Forges U.S. Joint Venture

China's Ministry of Commerce has called for mutually beneficial solutions in TikTok's latest move to establish a U.S.-based joint venture, emphasizing compliance with Chinese laws while safeguarding corporate interests. The remarks come as tensions over cross-border tech operations continue to shape China-U.S. economic relations.

Spokesperson He Yongqian addressed media inquiries on Thursday regarding reports that the popular video-sharing platform finalized agreements with three investors to create a new operational structure in the United States. "We hope all parties can reach resolutions that both follow legal frameworks and balance diverse interests," He stated during the weekly briefing.

The development follows through on commitments made during recent high-level discussions between Chinese and U.S. leaders, with economic teams from both countries establishing foundational agreements to address operational challenges faced by Chinese tech firms abroad. Beijing has repeatedly emphasized the need for predictable business environments amid growing geopolitical complexities.

"We expect our U.S. counterparts to join us in fostering fair, open, and non-discriminatory conditions for sustainable operations," He added, underscoring China's commitment to stable bilateral trade relations. The statement reflects ongoing efforts to navigate regulatory challenges while maintaining technological collaboration between the world's two largest economies.
