Somalia’s Rebuild & China Partnership: President Mohamud Speaks

In an exclusive interview with China Media Group, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud outlined ambitious plans for national reconstruction while emphasizing the strategic importance of China-Africa cooperation. The discussion comes as Somalia accelerates infrastructure development and security reforms this year, supported by Beijing's longstanding partnership.

"China stood with us during our independence in 1960 and continues supporting our sovereignty today," Mohamud stated, noting recent Chinese investments in Mogadishu's hospitals and vocational training centers. The president highlighted 2025 as a pivotal year for energy projects, including solar power initiatives developed through bilateral agreements.

Security cooperation remains crucial, with Mohamud revealing ongoing counterterrorism coordination between African Union forces and international partners. "Stability enables economic progress," he said, pointing to new port developments along the Indian Ocean coast that could transform regional trade routes.

When asked about development priorities, the president emphasized education and healthcare: "We're rebuilding schools destroyed by decades of conflict while implementing digital literacy programs aligned with China's technological expertise."

The interview concluded with discussions about Somalia's Blue Economy potential and environmental protection efforts, areas where Chinese experience in sustainable development could prove vital. As reconstruction accelerates, analysts watch how this Horn of Africa nation will leverage international partnerships to achieve its Vision 2030 goals.
