Cuba Condemns U.S. Terror Designation on Venezuela

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla has strongly criticized the United States' recent designation of Venezuela's government as a "foreign terrorist organization," calling it a politically driven maneuver that threatens regional stability. The remarks come days after Washington announced the controversial label under President Donald Trump's administration.

"This arbitrary decision exposes the manipulation of counterterrorism efforts for geopolitical goals," Rodriguez stated on social media platform X on December 20, 2025. He warned the move could "destabilize peace and security across Latin America and the Caribbean" through escalating economic pressure and diplomatic isolation.

The Cuban government reaffirmed its "full solidarity" with Venezuelan authorities, framing the U.S. action as part of a broader pattern of coercive measures against sovereign states. Analysts note this development intensifies existing tensions in a region where multiple governments have recently sought to reduce reliance on U.S. diplomatic frameworks.

While the immediate economic impacts remain unclear, the designation could complicate international trade arrangements and energy partnerships involving Venezuelan oil reserves – a critical factor for Asian markets monitoring global energy security trends.
