Mainland Rejects Japanese PM’s Taiwan Remarks, Reaffirms Sovereignty

A Chinese mainland spokesperson firmly rejected Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent comments on the Taiwan question, reiterating that the matter is an internal affair of China. Zhu Fenglian of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office emphasized on Wednesday that external interference in cross-strait relations is unacceptable, urging Japan to correct its stance immediately.

The remarks came after Takaichi called for a 'peaceful resolution through dialogue' during a parliamentary session. Zhu stressed that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of Chinese territory since ancient times, adding that the Chinese people possess the capability to resolve their own issues without foreign involvement.

Analysts note this exchange highlights rising regional sensitivities as Asian economies deepen integration. Business leaders warn that diplomatic tensions could impact supply chains and investment flows across the Taiwan Strait, where over $300 billion in annual trade transits.

This development follows increased cross-strait cultural exchanges this year, with over 1.2 million Taiwan region residents visiting the mainland since January. Observers suggest Japan's position could affect its economic partnerships in Asia, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing where both regions play crucial roles.
