China Urges Immediate Gaza Ceasefire, Reiterates Two-State Solution at UN

China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called for an urgent and lasting ceasefire in Gaza during a UN Security Council meeting on December 16, 2025, emphasizing the need to prevent further civilian casualties and stabilize the region.

Ceasefire Violations and Humanitarian Crisis

Fu highlighted that over the past two months, repeated breaches of ceasefire agreements have claimed hundreds of civilian lives. He stressed that a durable ceasefire must end all hostilities, not merely reduce their intensity, and warned against actions undermining fragile peace efforts. 'China urges all parties, particularly Israel, to honor their commitments under existing agreements and cease measures exacerbating tensions,' he stated.

Humanitarian Access and Settler Violence

The envoy demanded Israel open border crossings to facilitate humanitarian aid into Gaza and support UN-led relief operations. He also condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank, urging an immediate halt to settler violence and economic restrictions on Palestinians. Fu emphasized the need to return withheld tax revenues to the Palestinian National Authority to strengthen governance.

Two-State Solution as Path to Peace

Reiterating China's longstanding position, Fu declared the two-state solution the only viable resolution to the conflict. He insisted Gaza's future must prioritize Palestinian self-governance and rejected attempts to alter the territory's demographics. 'The international community must unite to advance Palestine's UN membership and achieve a just, lasting peace,' he added.

China reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate globally in addressing Gaza's humanitarian crisis and advancing a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
