Beijing Hosts Cross-Cultural Dialogue on Development Priorities
Chinese and German experts convened in Beijing this week for the 2025 China-Germany Human Rights Development Forum, emphasizing collaborative approaches to global challenges. The hybrid event brought together 30 scholars and policymakers to address the intersection of international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance.
Multilateral Solutions Take Center Stage
Participants unanimously endorsed strengthened multilateral frameworks during Thursday's discussions. Li Hongkui of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development highlighted urgent global needs: "With 800 million still in extreme poverty and billions lacking clean water, our nations must lead through practical cooperation."
Former German Justice Minister Herta Däubler-Gmelin noted the complementary nature of development aid and crisis response: "Building resilience through sustainable partnerships represents our best long-term strategy for human rights advancement."
26 Years of Bilateral Engagement
The forum marks the latest chapter in Sino-German human rights cooperation dating to 1999. Through 12 specialized seminars and eight high-level forums, the partnership has facilitated cross-cultural understanding while addressing contemporary challenges in global governance.
