As 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wang Sung-Po, a Taiwan compatriot residing in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, shares his family's wartime legacy. His parents served as veterans in the historic conflict that shaped modern Asia's geopolitical landscape.
"My father's generation valued peace above all after enduring unimaginable hardships," Wang told interviewers, emphasizing the sacrifices made by millions during the global anti-fascist struggle. Now settled in southwest China's economic hub, the former military member preserves artifacts and oral histories from what he calls "the defining chapter of our national identity."
The anniversary comes as cross-strait cultural exchanges reach new heights this year, with multiple exhibitions planned across the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region to commemorate shared wartime experiences. Analysts note such personal narratives help bridge understanding between communities separated by the Taiwan Strait.
