Fabio Abreu’s Hat Trick Secures Chinese FA Cup for Beijing Guoan

Beijing Guoan triumphed in the Chinese FA Cup final on December 6, 2025, defeating Henan 3-0 at Suzhou Olympic Sports Center. Angolan striker Fabio Abreu delivered a historic hat trick, securing the club's first Cup title since 2018 and fifth overall.

The match began with high intensity as both teams fielded full-strength lineups. Abreu broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Henan goalkeeper Wang Guoming parried an initial shot. His dominance continued before halftime when a deflected shot led to a penalty, which he converted for a 2-0 lead.

Henan struggled to recover in a physical second half marked by multiple cautions. Abreu sealed his hat trick in stoppage time after a retaken penalty, cementing Guoan's victory in front of 40,000 fans. Over 20,000 traveling Henan supporters outnumbered Guoan fans but left disappointed as their team fell short in its first final appearance since 1994.

"We came here determined to win," said Abreu, the Chinese Super League's top scorer this season. "I want to celebrate this trophy with our fans in Beijing." Henan midfielder Wang Shangyuan acknowledged the defeat: "We're deeply grateful to our supporters and will strive to improve."

The victory caps a mixed 2025 campaign for Guoan, who finished fourth in the league but demonstrated cup-winning resolve under pressure.
