2025’s Final Supermoon Dazzles Global Skywatchers

Skygazers worldwide marveled at 2025's last supermoon on Thursday evening, December 4, as the celestial phenomenon illuminated night skies with enhanced size and brightness. Occurring when the moon reaches its closest orbital point to Earth, this supermoon appeared up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than an average full moon.

While three to four supermoons typically occur annually, Thursday's event marked the final opportunity this year to observe the striking lunar display. Amateur astronomers and photographers from Tokyo to Tehran captured stunning images of the enlarged moon hovering above iconic landmarks.

The phenomenon holds particular cultural significance across Asia, where lunar cycles traditionally influence festivals and agricultural calendars. Scientists note that while supermoons create visual spectacles, they also bring slightly higher tidal ranges – a consideration for coastal communities.
