French President Emmanuel Macron is leveraging his ongoing state visit to strengthen mineral supply chains critical for France's green energy ambitions, with Beijing emerging as a key strategic partner. As Europe accelerates its energy transition, cooperation in electric vehicle production, hydrogen technology, and AI development has taken center stage in bilateral talks.
"At this moment, China is in the selling position, while France is in the buying position," noted Professor Michel Fayad of the French Institute of Petroleum and New Energies in a recent analysis. This dynamic reflects growing European demand for lithium, cobalt, and rare earth metals essential for battery production and digital infrastructure.
The collaboration comes as France seeks to reduce dependency on limited domestic mineral resources while maintaining technological leadership in renewable energy sectors. Both nations are exploring joint ventures in sustainable mining practices and circular economy solutions to address environmental concerns.
