China Hosts Global South Dialogue in Shanghai to Strengthen Unity

Shanghai became a hub for international cooperation as China hosted the Third Global South Think Tanks Dialogue on December 4, 2025. The event gathered 350 political leaders and scholars from over 120 countries under the theme Seeking Strength Through Unity: Responsibility and Action of the Global South.

Chen Jining, a senior Communist Party of China official in Shanghai, emphasized the city's commitment to enhancing economic collaboration and cultural exchanges with Global South nations. "Shanghai stands ready to accelerate joint modernization efforts through practical cooperation," he stated during his keynote address.

Liu Haixing of the CPC Central Committee's International Department reinforced China's role as a driving force for Global South solidarity, outlining plans to implement four global initiatives for shared prosperity. The sentiment found strong support from Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango, who praised China's development blueprint presented at the recent CPC plenary session as "a roadmap for sustainable progress across the Global South."

Organized by the CPC's International Department and Shanghai Municipal Committee, the dialogue concluded with participants endorsing enhanced South-South cooperation mechanisms to address contemporary challenges in energy security and technological development.
