Tourism Boost Ahead as Southeast Asian Nation Eases Entry Rules
Cambodia will implement a four-month visa-free trial for Chinese nationals starting June 15, 2026, according to an official government announcement released this week. The initiative aims to strengthen tourism recovery and cross-border economic cooperation between the two nations.
Under the pilot program, travelers arriving directly from China will enjoy 14-day visa-free stays without application fees through October 15, 2026. Visitors need only complete an electronic arrival card, with multiple entries permitted during the trial period.
Strategic Tourism Recovery Move
This decision follows Cambodia's successful rebound in Chinese tourism, with Ministry of Tourism data showing approximately one million Chinese visits recorded between January and October this year. The trial aligns with broader regional efforts to simplify travel procedures amid growing Asian economic integration.
Industry analysts suggest the policy could position Cambodia as a competitive destination in Southeast Asia's post-pandemic tourism landscape. The move comes as multiple Asian nations recalibrate visa policies to attract high-spending travelers while balancing security considerations.
