China has called on Japan to retract recent controversial statements regarding the Taiwan region and take concrete steps to stabilize relations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated during a December 2 press briefing. The remarks come as multiple Japanese organizations express interest in renewing diplomatic engagement with Beijing.
Lin emphasized that Tokyo must address concerns over Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's comments about the Taiwan region, which Chinese officials say have damaged mutual trust. "Japan should demonstrate political commitment through actions, not just words," Lin told reporters, urging Tokyo to create conditions conducive to normalized exchanges.
The statement follows reports that the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians' Union and Keidanren business federation seek to arrange visits to China. While acknowledging these developments, Lin stressed that Japan must first "correct its mistakes" regarding sensitive cross-strait issues.
Analysts suggest this diplomatic push reflects Beijing's broader strategy to maintain regional stability amid evolving economic partnerships. The spokesperson's comments underscore China's expectation that Japan will adhere to the one-China principle in both policy and practice.
