U.S. Firms Dominate Global Arms Revenue in 2024, SIPRI Reports

New data reveals U.S. defense contractors solidified their market dominance in 2024, accounting for 49% of the $679 billion global arms revenue generated by the world's top 100 military suppliers. According to Monday's Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report, 39 American companies collectively earned $334 billion – a 3.8% increase from 2023.

The sector's 5.9% overall growth was primarily driven by European and U.S. firms, with SpaceX making its Top 100 debut through $1.8 billion in arms sales. This surge coincides with heightened military spending amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Israel-Palestine tensions, and global geopolitical instability.

SIPRI analysts note 2024 marked record-breaking revenues for arms manufacturers, reflecting what they describe as 'a new era of accelerated defense industrialization.' The trend shows no signs of slowing, with multiple Asia-Pacific countries recently announcing expanded military modernization programs.

Established in 1966, SIPRI remains a key authority on arms trade analysis, providing critical insights for policymakers and security experts worldwide.
