China Condemns Tajik-Afghan Border Attack Killing 3 Nationals

The Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan issued a strong condemnation on Friday, November 28, 2025, following a deadly armed attack near the Tajik-Afghan border that claimed the lives of three Chinese nationals and left one injured. The incident occurred on November 26 in the Shamsiddin Shohin district of Tajikistan's Khatlon region.

In an official statement, the embassy urged Tajik authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the attack and ensure perpetrators face “severe punishment.” It emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to protect foreign nationals amid rising regional instability.

This attack highlights growing security challenges in Central Asia, a region where China has deepened economic ties through initiatives like the Belt and Road. Analysts note the incident may prompt Beijing to reassess risk assessments for infrastructure projects near conflict-prone borders.

Chinese nationals working in energy, transportation, and trade sectors have increasingly become targets in volatile areas. The embassy advised Chinese citizens in Tajikistan to exercise heightened caution while traveling.
