China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, emphasized on Monday that achieving a durable ceasefire in Gaza remains an urgent priority, as violence continues to threaten regional stability. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Fu welcomed recent ceasefire progress but warned that Israel's reported 400 violations of the agreement – resulting in over 300 civilian deaths – undermine trust and prolong suffering.
"A ceasefire means the complete cessation of all attacks," Fu stated, urging all parties to act in good faith. He called on Israel to open humanitarian corridors and allow unimpeded access for UN relief agencies, noting that 1.8 million Gazans currently face severe food insecurity.
The envoy reiterated China's support for Palestinian self-governance, stressing that future arrangements must reflect "the principle of Palestinians governing Palestine." Fu urged accelerated international efforts to implement the two-state solution, opposing unilateral actions that jeopardize peace prospects.
With Palestine's UN membership bid pending, China pledged continued diplomatic efforts to achieve what Fu described as "a comprehensive, just solution anchored in international law." The remarks come amid growing global calls to prevent further escalation in the conflict, now entering its third year.
