China's aviation sector achieved a milestone this week as a domestically developed 2-tonne electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft successfully completed a 118-kilometer cross-city cargo flight in Guizhou Province. The low-altitude test mission transported emergency medicines and agricultural products between Qianxi County and provincial capital Guiyang in 40 minutes – a journey that typically takes two hours by road in the mountainous region.
The fully electric aircraft, operated by Guiyang Low-Altitude Industry Development Company, combines helicopter-like vertical capability with reduced noise levels and zero emissions. Designed for logistics, emergency response, and regional commuting, this demonstration marks progress in establishing regular air routes across Guizhou's challenging terrain.
Local authorities highlight the flight's significance in developing a three-dimensional transportation network, particularly for time-sensitive medical deliveries and agricultural exports. This year has seen accelerated development of low-altitude airspace management systems across China, with Guizhou emerging as a testing ground for next-generation aviation technologies.
