China, Tajikistan Strengthen Ties in Historic Strategic Dialogue

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin convened their first strategic dialogue in Dushanbe on November 22, 2025, marking a milestone in bilateral relations. The meeting reinforced commitments to economic collaboration, regional security, and multilateral coordination amid evolving global dynamics.

Wang, emphasizing the nations' mountain-linked friendship, outlined five key proposals to advance cooperation: mutual political support, expanded trade through Belt and Road initiatives, cultural exchanges through Confucius Institutes, joint counterterrorism efforts, and enhanced UN coordination. Notably, Tajikistan confirmed its participation in China's International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).

The dialogue saw both sides reaffirm their positions on core sovereignty issues. Wang thanked Tajikistan for its steadfast adherence to the one-China principle regarding the Taiwan question, while Muhriddin pledged continued support for China's territorial integrity. The ministers also agreed to coordinate on Afghanistan's stabilization as shared neighbors.

Economic priorities dominated discussions, with plans to increase Tajik agricultural exports to China and develop green mineral projects. Both nations committed to implementing outcomes from the 20th CPC Central Committee's fourth plenary session, linking China's development goals with regional growth opportunities.

The meeting concluded with a joint statement underscoring commitments to build a "closer community with a shared future," positioning Central Asia as a key partner in China's global governance initiatives.
