Uzbek President, Chinese FM Wang Yi Strengthen Strategic Ties

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation during high-level talks in Tashkent on November 22, 2025. The meeting marked a significant step in implementing major infrastructure projects and aligning regional security strategies between the two nations.

Economic Ambitions Take Center Stage

President Mirziyoyev emphasized progress on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, calling it a "transformative connectivity initiative" for Central Asia. Both leaders committed to accelerating efforts toward achieving $20 billion in bilateral trade, with new cooperation planned in green energy, AI development, and agricultural technology.

Shared Governance Vision

The Uzbek leader congratulated China on the successful fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, expressing confidence in the implementation of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. Wang Yi highlighted Uzbekistan's poverty reduction achievements, pledging continued support to help eliminate absolute poverty in the country by 2030.

Security and Global Initiatives

Reaffirming commitment to the one-China principle, Mirziyoyev vowed joint action against "the three evils" of terrorism, separatism, and extremism. The leaders agreed to enhance coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and advance President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative through concrete regional projects.
