Chimelong Founder Makes History as First Chinese IAAPA Hall of Fame Inductee

Su Zhigang, founder of China's Chimelong Group, achieved a landmark recognition this week by becoming the first industry leader from the Chinese mainland inducted into the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Hall of Fame. The historic ceremony in Orlando highlights China's growing influence in global entertainment and tourism sectors.

Since establishing Chimelong in 1989, Su has transformed the brand into Asia's largest operator of theme parks and wildlife resorts. The company's flagship attractions in Guangzhou and Zhuhai attracted over 50 million visitors in 2025 alone, contributing significantly to China's cultural tourism economy.

IAAPA leadership praised Su's innovative integration of ecological conservation with family entertainment, noting his parks' role in promoting international understanding of China's biodiversity. This recognition comes as Asian theme park investments are projected to grow 12% annually through 2030.

The induction coincides with increased collaboration between Chinese and international tourism operators, with Chimelong recently announcing partnerships with three European entertainment developers. Analysts suggest this milestone could accelerate cross-cultural exchanges ahead of China's anticipated 2030 World Expo bid.
